Body Maintenance is a group of Exercise Physiologists dedicated to applying the latest research in physical conditioning and rehabilitation. We use exercise as a form of therapy in physical rehabilitation, as a preventive and maintenance strategy in chronic disease and as the base in developing and establishing functional independence. We specialise in training all types of people, from elite athletes to chronic disease.

Karen is our Principal clinician who completed a Bachelor of Applied Science degree at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The main focus of this degree was to develop a greater understanding in exercise prescription to offer people with chronic disease a new method of treatment.

Lucy recently joined the team at Sowelu, bringing 8 years experience as a personal trainer. Lucy is extremely passionate about health and fitness and takes a holistic and balanced approach to exercise and wellbeing. She has a wide range of clients who she has been working with for many years, from older adults, pre and post natal clients, general fitness, injury rehabilitation, weight loss and muscle gain to name a few. She is very interested in flexibility and postural correction and is currently studying to also become a yoga instructor which she feels will complement the work she is doing now with her clients.

I have been a practicing Biokineticist/ exercise physiologist for the past 6 years and lecture Biomechanics at Southern Cross University. Before Joining the Sowelu Team I worked in my own private practice in South Africa, treating and rehabilitating an array of clients with conditions such as Diabetes, hypertension, cardiac Rx, Parkinson’s, osteoporosis, arthritis, obesity, musculoskeletal, etc. I had the opportunity to work at One Military Hospitals Cardiac unit and Tukkies cardiac clinic in Pretoria South Africa as well as at the Houghton Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology.
